I feel uncomfortable wearing just a tank top in warm weather. The solution for me has been to wear these tops on very warm days. They are as cool as a tank top without showing the whole arm.

Pauline Durban, Founder of cabotparticlematters, a company dedicated to providing fashion for mature women

Hi, my name is Pauline Durban and I'm the founder of cabotparticlematters,
a small business dedicated to providing fashion for mature women.

I felt the need to write this article after constantly seeing nasty comments online.

Social media is an interesting animal. It allows us to keep in touch with friends and family all around the world. We get to see what they have for dinner, what restaurants they are visiting as well as all the amazing pictures of their children, or in our case, it’s often grandchildren.

cabotparticlematters has been able to grow by getting the word out, via social media, so for that, I will be forever grateful. However: social media also has a dark side. It allows people to hide behind their computers and say mean things about companies and people!

They say things on social media that they wouldn’t dream of saying in a store or face to face. I know many of my blogger friends have experienced negative comments from just plain mean people, who it seems their mission in life is to bring other women down.

Women supporting women is the only way to go! The women’s clothes that I have designed won’t be for everyone, that’s a fact. I visit many stores online and don’t buy anything. However; I would never dream of telling them I don’t like their products, or that they are too expensive…I just move on.

Would you go up to the owner or manager of a store and tell them that you don't like their clothes? Of course not! Then there's no need to leave a comment on anything that you have had no experience with.

On the Facebook page of a major online retailer, I saw a request asking that no negative comments be posted as they like to encourage a positive environment. It's sad that they even have to say that. I’m pretty sure that they delete negative comments and ban the poster. Good for them!

For women to post some of the things that I have seen is inexcusable. I have got into the habit of posting this article as a reply. Some still want to argue, some say sorry and delete their comment. If you have arrived here after posting one of these comments. Please think before you do this to any company. It doesn't show you in a very good light.

cabotparticlematters is a small, woman-owned company and negative comments can hurt us and any small business. If it's genuine, I'm happy to leave it there, but when it's a totally inaccurate comment made or posted by someone who hasn't even tried our product, they will be deleted.

If they come back with another one, they will be banned.

Cyberbullying among teens is a major problem. I ask you, what kind of example are these "adults" setting for the younger generation?

It’s very sad when women feel the need to tear other women down. Especially when they post derogatory messages on blogger sites, who, for the most part, dedicate their time free. To leave mean comments on their pages is just rude, the women who do this, in my opinion, have no class!

It’s so much better to be supportive and build each other up. Women empowering women is a much better way to go.

What happened to – “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything”? I guess we should be sympathetic and believe that they are going through tough times. Why else would they post mean things? What does it achieve, does it make them feel better. We will never know. Oh well.

Don’t get me wrong, people leave nice comments all the time, which I thoroughly appreciate, and I see a lot of nice comments all over social media.

Now if we could just stop the mean people… I would love to hear your (nice) comments.

The number one question we get asked, is "How can I hide my tummy"? The first thing...it's not all about the tops. There are other things you need to do besides wearing the right top to hide your tummy.

Some women (not me) are fortunate enough to have flat tummies. Whether it be from exercise, diet or good genes. This article is for those of us women over 40, women over 50, women over 60 and beyond, who need a little bit of help to cover your tummy and hide your muffin top.

 1. The first thing to do is start with the right underwear, it's important that they fit well or they will cause lumps and bumps in all the wrong places. If you wear shapewear, go for high waisted or a full bodysuit. Or even a well-fitted camisole will help.

 2. Wear a well-fitting pair of pants or a skirt. Again, high waisted is best. Low waist tends to emphasize our lumps and bumps. One thing is for sure, the tighter my pants...the bigger my muffin top. As much as we hate to do it, sizing up is the best way to go. Your shape will thank you for it.

 1. Stay away from tops that hit your midsection as that will draw the eyes to that exact spot. Wearing longer tops will draw the eyes past your tummy and make you look slimmer.

 1. Avoid wearing belts at your waist as this will also attract attention to your midsection. If you want to wear a belt, wear one loose that hangs on your hips. Personally, I avoid them altogether

 1. Wearing layers is good, wear something over your top, like a long vest or a cardigan. Make sure it isn't bulky. The idea is to create vertical lines.

 1. Avoid tops that fit you too tight in the middle. If it clings to your body, it's too small. I know we hate to do it, but go up a size if necessary so that you have some room to spare. Comfort is the name of the game.

 1. Wear tops that float away from your waist. A-lines are always a good choice. Draped tops or a Fit and Flare work really well too. Don't tuck your tops in as it will emphasize your tummy area. One side tuck will work though.

So there you have it. Following these simple tips will help you hide your tummy and make your outfits more flattering. Check out the following tops which are great for covering your tummy and hide your muffin top. In fact, pretty much all of cabotparticlematters women's tops are designed for just that. Hence the name

Meet Colleen...

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this COVID 19 crisis. It’s definitely a new norm. Trying to adjust to that.

My name is Colleen Gragnano. I am married to a wonderful man with 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson who is 11 years old.

This virus has definitely affected our lives as he lives in Arizona and we missed his 11th birthday. That was a first.

Simply stated I am like the girl next door. I have modeled for cabotparticlematters since I was 63 years old

When that happened I felt like it was like a fairytale and a dream come true. I’m basically a little shy and this made me color outside the box.

I think I am her oldest model at 67 years old now. I love the style of clothing and how comfortable they are to wear. Another great feature is I wash them in cold water and hang to dry. The tops come out perfect. Enjoy these pictures of Paulines creations.

I had my husband take them in our yard. You can see the sun dappling across the pictures. No perfect lighting here. Love and health to all.

Thank you, Colleen, we are sure glad you are part of the Covered Perfectly team!

I don't normally post full length but they are so great, I thought I would make an exception.

The black/snow leopard is one of my favorites.
How great does she look in this red zipper top? Fabulous!

Meet Maria

Maria and I have been friends for over 35 years. We met when we work both working for one of the largest independent newspapers in Europe. It took a little while but we soon became fast friends. I stood up for her at her wedding and we’ve been the best of friends ever since.

After a few years at the newspaper, Maria left to start her own business. She was actually one of the few female-owned car dealerships in the U.K. at the time.

Eventually, she sold everything and moved to Spain to start a vacation rental business (or as they call it holiday rental).

She’s one of the hardest workers I know. With her fun personality and generous heart, she is a popular figure on the urbanization that she lives.

When I was 60, Maria flew over to help celebrate and I held a photoshoot. Now she can add model to her impressive resume.

Maria hit 60 last year and she makes 60 look really good!

Below are just a few of her cabotparticlematters tops. The pictures were taking in her beautiful yard.

Another one that looks beautiful despite the lockdown in Spain.

Check out Maria's vacation rental website here You can at least dream about a vacation.

Now for something a little different. I reached out to our models, who are also customers, and asked them to send me some pictures in their cabotparticlematters tops, along with a little bit about themselves. Be sure to scroll down to see the pictures.
Meet Barbie...

"It was always a dream of mine as a young girl to be a model. Growing up in Canada, the fashion industry seemed like an unattainable fairytale world. So, as life would have it, I took a more conventional route choosing a teaching career, got married, and became a mother of two.

The dream to be a model never left me, even though I felt it would never come to fruition. I felt trapped in a toxic first marriage filled with disparaging remarks about my looks and weight. Self-limiting beliefs became the norm and I developed an eating disorder and body image issues.

Eventually, I left my marriage and remarried someone who supports and loves me fiercely, and at my worst, holds me closer. We relocated to Los Angeles where I attempted a short-lived retirement from teaching but soon returned to the classroom.

Once I retired officially from teaching, I set to pursue my lifelong dream to be a model. Against the odds, in 2017, at the age of 57, I embraced my looks and my curves and stepped into a whole new world and launched a lifestyle modeling career.

At midlife, not a fashion industry size zero, I signed with an agency as a lifestyle model. I have worked on print jobs and commercials and some acting jobs as background in movies and TV shows. I am also busy on social media as a brand influencer.

My advice to women in midlife is to embrace your uniqueness and love and nurture your body and mind in healthy ways. It’s a grand opportunity to take all life’s experiences and wisdom and apply them to the pursuit of new things. Who says it’s too late? Time is more precious than ever and rather than counting the years, it’s an opportunity to regroup, rewire, and inspire others along the way"!

Thanks, Barbie, it's a great story.

Do you know which neckline is flattering to your body?

Many people don’t! This short article covers the different types of necklines and which one will work for you.

The goal of the neckline is to balance your body.

Boat Neck

This style works best for people with a slim neck and shoulders. However; it also works well for women with long necks and a small face.

The boat neck will work if you have a large bust as it draws the eyes up to the neck.

Do you have a long face? The Boat Neck will work for you too. It’s great for pear, hourglass, and rectangle body shapes.
If you have broad shoulders or inverted triangle shape, stay away from the boat neck, as it will make them look wider.

Drape Neck

This design draws the eyes to the bust area and works great with a smaller bust and wider hips.

Drape Neck is great for Apple, hourglass and pear-shaped bodies.
V-Neck

A V-neck is flattering to almost every shape. It gives you a slimming effect (that’s what my mom said, and you know moms are always right).

It’s especially perfect for women with a round face as well as the curvier and bustier figure.

The V Neck doesn't work if you have a long face, because it will make your face look longer. You would be more suited to a boat neck.

Square Neck

This is another one that works well for women with narrow shoulders. The square neck also works well if you have a small head.
If you have a square face, you should avoid this neckline.

While the Square Neck works well with most body shapes, it’s especially good for pear shape bodies.

A great design for a pear-shaped body is a wrap over design.

Scoop neck

You can add curves to your figure with this neckline. It’s perfect if you have a short or wide neck as it will make it look longer.
This neckline also works well if you have a square face.

The good news, the scoop neck will work with everybody's shape so it is a very popular neckline.

If you have an hourglass figure…lucky you!

There are very few necklines that won’t work on you. Just don’t wear your tops too tight, and wear a more fitted shape.

So there you have it. Happy Shopping!

Note from Pauline Durban, Founder of cabotparticlematters - Regulars know that Susan has worked many times with us. In this article she shares her experience of posing for pictures, she has some great tips. I love that Susan used the popular Simple V to feature in her article.

Over to Susan...

For a short time, while in my twenties, I taught modeling to preteens at a charm school in Norfolk, Virginia. I have also been asked to model many times over the years, but I do not consider myself a professional by any stretch of the imagination.

In these photos am wearing one of my favorite easy casual looks. The top is the Simple Comfort V-Neck from cabotparticlematters. My waistline is rather thick, so I used one of my favorite tricks to make it look more defined.

That is an old hook and eye belt from Chico's that I am wearing low in the front to create a V rather than a straight horizontal line. For example, if I tucked this top in and wore a belt (horrors!) I would look twenty pounds heavier. Fifty, not Frumpy followers get a 20% discount on up to two items! Use the discount code FNF20 when you check out at cabotparticlematters.

Professional models give the photographer great shots one after the other. Poor Mr. Mickey sometimes has to take seventy pictures for me to get four or five photos that are acceptable for publishing on the blog.

Many of you have asked me to share tips on posing for the camera, so this post is for you. I am happy to share what I have learned.

First and foremost is lighting. Always face the light source. The golden hour for perfect lighting is as the sun is setting on an overcast evening. The worst time to take a photo is noon. When the light source is coming from directly overhead, your features will create harsh shadows and look more pronounced.

Look for the right background. My cabotparticlematters V-Neck top is black, so a light neutral background allows you so see more of the details of what I am wearing. If I were standing in front of a dark bush or wall, there would be too little contrast.

Stand tall with good posture but relaxed. Imagine a string holding your head high and your body falling in a nice straight line beneath it. Whenever I model with someone, and it is their first time, they always ask, "What do I do with my hands?" Pretend your nails are wet. Relax your hands and keep them soft and natural when you pose. Every move should be fluid and small. The camera will capture it if you are stiff and unnatural in your poses.

Learn your best side and practice how much smile is enough. Straight on is best for me since I don't like my profile at all. If I am laughing, too much of my gums will be showing. I have learned to look straight into the camera, relax and give a small smile.

Create angles with your body. Put one foot in front of the other or out to the side or turn one hip toward the camera. Put one hand on your hip or just bend one arm at the elbow and angle it out from your body. Create space between your arms and legs to avoid looking larger than you are. For example, if your arm is straight by your side, it will look bigger than if you angle it just slightly away from your body.

Relax and have fun with it. When we are shooting, I am always moving, and Mr. Mickey is clicking away with each shift in movement. I hear a click; I move to a slightly different pose. It takes us less than five minutes to shoot fifty photos.

Remember that whatever is closest to the camera will look largest. For example, when I am sitting, I never cross my legs to the side and angle the upper leg away from the camera. That makes my thighs look huge!

In the photo above, my hands and feet look larger than they are because they are closest to the camera. That is the perspective. You can use this to your advantage if you understand how to manipulate perspective with your poses.

In these two poses, I am keeping my face, hands, and feet in line with my knees so that nothing appears a lot larger than it is.

Below, my hands are closest to the camera, so they look bigger.

It is almost always better to be looking up at the photographer instead of down. Below is an example of a bad angle. My neck looks every day of its almost sixty years here.

Two steps down so that I am more eye to eye with the camera is much more flattering. Slightly looking up at the camera is the best angle of all.

I hope these little tips help you to have fun and get better photos for your book of memories.

The Jag Jeans are from The Fig Leaf in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. I love the fact that they have a smooth wide waistband with no zipper or loops to create lumps and bumps under my tops.

The shoes are at least three years old by Vince Camuto. The bag is a couple of years old by BCBG via T.J.Maxx. It is a great light neutral color, so I carry it often in summer. My favorite sunglasses are by Balmain via Saks Off 5th.
The cuff is by Made In The Deep South, and it is from The Charlemont in Kingsport, Tennessee which is also where we shot these photos.

Today I received my Leisure Suit from cabotparticlematters! When I first saw the name “Leisure Suit”, I had to chuckle, because my interpretation of a leisure suit is of one of the men’s polyester suits from 1975 with a big collar, a silky shirt, and in a pastel color!

Well let me tell you, this is the 2020 modern ladies version of the leisure suit! It is awesome how many different ways this outfit can be styled. The v-neck top and Capri lounge set is the most comfortable outfit I have worn in a long time!

The Micro Modal material is so very soft and can be worn so many different ways.

.The most comfortable Lounge suit in olive green

This Leisure Suit works for lounging around the house, running errands, or even going out for the evening. The Leisure Suit is so comfortable you could literally sleep in it too! I normally would have ordered this in black, (my normal go-to color!) but decided to change things up a bit and go with the olive color. Olive is another great neutral that can be paired with black or brown, or go a bit more daring and pair with red or bright pink accessories.

The Leisure Suit is so versatile that it can be worn around the house for a casual day at home, or with sneakers or sandals to run some errands, or pair it with a pair of heels for a night out. When I dressed my Leisure Suit up for a night out, I knotted the shirt at the bottom, added a statement necklace, and wore some chunk heel shoes.

The Leisure Suit is currently available in blue, black, and olive for €59.95. For size reference, I am wearing a large.

Note from Covered perfectly - inventory is limited and unfortunately, the lightweight Micro Modal is no longer available. Once they are gone, that is it.

Over to Terri

Hmmm…when a new top grabs me, I have questions. Do I like it enough to wear for a few years? How many ways can I wear it with what I already have in my closet? Well made/designed well? What’s the texture…how does the fabric feel? Does it compliment my body?

I don’t usually ask if it’s going to make me look like I’m about five pounds thinner. But that is what cabotparticlematters’s Wrap Over Top seems to do for me. So I am pretty enthusiastic about this terrific top.

Pauline has ingeniously combined the right elements to create one of the most flattering tops in my closet. The Wrap Over Top has an elongated length that is finished off with a wide ruched band at the bottom. That along with the cross over wrapped front works to thin and lengthened the torso. The blouson effect over the band also hides the tummy area perfectly. This top is magic!

Details

Given that I’m a natural color lover, I picked my Wrap-Over Top in the Ivory. It also comes in blue, purple (Love, Love, Love!) and black.

It is sized generously but I still ordered mine in large and am very happy with the fit. The sizes come in S-2XL, so a size for most everyone.

The Wrap-Over Top is 96% Micromodal and 6% Spandex. Pauline makes all of her garments in the United States. But the super-soft, luxurious MicroModal® comes from Austria. It is a completely natural material made from European beechwood. The composition makes it a breathable fabric and just feels absolutely luxurious. The people who produce Micromodal claim that it is made in an ecologically sustainable way.

Styling

I’ve styled my top four different ways, two with skirts and two with pants.

I’ve combined my Cross-Over top with cabotparticlematters’s A-Line Cheetah print skirt (now on sale) and will be wearing this combo from Spring to Fall. Other additions are an Anthony Luciano’s Megan Hobo bag (eBay), Steve Madden’s tan ankle tie suede shoes, and a long pendant necklace from Kansas City designer Ngan Vuong.

I have a feeling this is going to be my uniform for Spring 2020: I just feel very chic when wearing this combination. Adding a pair of skinny black jeans, some heeled open toed Unisa booties (no longer available) and a black and crème Rebecca Minkoff Love bag (last season) create a simple but strong statement–easily copied I think.

I can even wear my Cross-Over top in the winter! I added a thrifted cheetah scarf, a brown leather skirt (Poshmark), a pair of Rebecca Minkoff booties (old from her site) and my brown leather bag (years ago from T.J. Maxx). When it gets colder, I can throw on my thrifted (& made in the USA) camel jacket.

My final style is for spring/summer. I’ve combined straw, wood, and faux tortoiseshell for a polished look. The oversized blue/tortoise/gold necklace, from T.J Maxx, is always a hard one to match with a top. But I think this goes very well. The clutch (optional cross-over bag) is a vintage Rodo from eBay and the sandals are second hand Martha Davis also from eBay. My wood/brass wide bangle is thrifted.

Finally, I wanted to point out the attention to detail that Pauline gives her garments. The back of the Wrap-Over Top has a back neck yoke. This gives the top extra strength to support the layers of fabric in front. Being a seamstress myself, details like this suggest a well-thought-out garment.

The Cross-Over micro-model top is a multi-season winner. The price is €59.95. Being an affiliate of cabotparticlematters, my readers get a 20% discount. That makes it €47.96 and there is free shipping for orders over €47.00. Remember, all of cabotparticlematters is made in the USA.

If it doesn’t fit or you don’t like it, just return it within 45 days of purchase for a full refund or exchange.

Thanks to cabotparticlematters for collaborating on this post. Pauline did provide me this top for my honest opinion and this post does contain affiliate links, which generates a few pennies for MeadowTree Style.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed my review and ideas for wearing this nicely versatile, flattering top that has such a luxurious feel to it. I might add that Pauline designs with us classically aged women in mind.

Take care, everyone. Until next time…stay creative.

Hello fashionistas, I love these tops from cabotparticlematters! My favorite style top is the V neck 3/4 sleeve top! This style top is so flattering for mature women. I also like the fact that the V neck is not too low, so if you tend to be a bit more blessed in the bust department you don’t have to worry about showing too much cleavage.

I also like the quality, they are well made. All there tops come in different colors and some in cute Leopard prints. The V neck is such a great basic that can be styled with so many outfits, I like to tuck it in or wear it out and belted.

I am very impressed with their clothing, All styles are very forgiving and figure-flattering no matter your shape. They have a wide range of sizes from S, M, L, XL, 1XL, 2XL and can accommodate many different body shapes; apple or pear, straight, or hourglass. Women of all sizes and shapes are beautiful!

They make their clothes out of a fabric called MicroModal that feels good on the skin and is cool when women have hot flashes! I also love that almost everything is available in so many different color choices.

Have a blessed day,

Over to Susan...

Learning to make your needs a priority, can seem foreign if you’ve spent most of your life caring for others, or in a stressful work environment. It has taken quite some time for me to allow myself to pursue what makes me truly happy, as opposed to that which is required.

The vest is here and a top here from cabotparticlematters.

I no longer pay attention to trends or indulge in impulse shopping. Instead of trying too hard to appear youthful, I strive to look and feel my best at every age. Learning which foods most benefit my health has been truly life-changing.

Food was often my enemy during my working life. I rarely took the time to eat a healthy meal or even consider what might be best for me. My weight fluctuated considerably, and I was often ill. Even five extra pounds can cause back and knee pain to return. My sleep quality and overall health are also negatively affected by just a few extra pounds.

Steamed cauliflower – avocado – herbed feta – beets – olives -spinach – Spanish almonds – hemp hearts – olive oil with Kamucha Tea

Above is an example of one of my late lunches. Food choices in American can be abundant but not at all nutritious. Processed foods have little nutritional value, but lots of sugar and many calories, which means you will continue to feel hungry even if you just ate two hours ago. Sugar is highly addictive, so the more you eat it, the more you crave it.

About ninety percent of the time, I have only two meals per day. I eat highly nutritious foods, so I never feel hungry at night. I find that the more ingredients in an item, the less nutritional value there is. Fresh and frozen organic vegetables are a significant part of my diet.

Better food, fashion, and lifestyle choices have certainly benefited me in the past few years. Curling up with a good book now gets high priority because that brings me much more joy than going to another function or meeting. A day at home with no responsibility is a rare treasure that I enjoy to the fullest.

The elements of my looks are rarely new, so I share highlighted links to similar current items, often at luxury and medium price points. The shopping links in my posts may result in a small commission for me at no additional cost to you.

My super comfortable look for relaxing at home includes a vest here and a top here from cabotparticlematters. (When you buy two tops, the third is always free!)

The Great Alone: by Kristin Hanna is the best novel I’ve read in years. Books were my first friends, so I’m very grateful to now have the time to enjoy reading at my leisure.

Some folks abandon their New Year’s resolutions before the first week of January is over. That might be because we mostly plan to give up things, so I suggest adding a few good habits.

The most important habit to form is drinking lots of water. Drink a half-ounce of water for every pound you weigh every day. This formula came from my father’s Cardiologist. It is scary how many serious health problems you can stack up just from not drinking enough water.

Eat more vegetables. Steam them, grill them, roast them, add them to your soups and salads, or eat them raw, never fried.

Get your heart pumping! Spend twenty minutes moving your body with enthusiasm every day. It might be dancing while you are cleaning up after breakfast (you should see me dancing around the kitchen to Bon Jovi!) or go for a long brisk walk as often as you can. Just do it!

Over to Jennifer...

Today I’m styling a new top from cabotparticlematters. These tops are designed specifically for women over 40, 50 and beyond to give you flattering garments in luxurious fabric. This is the Olivia Buttoned A-Line in ivory.

It’s also available in black with ivory buttons and olive with black buttons.

I styled it with skinny stretch pants, black sandals, and some unique pearls for a semi-classic look.

It’s made from cabotparticlematters’s super soft MicroModal fabric with 6% spandex. The five contrasting buttons are for decoration and don’t open. The button band is nicely off-center which is always a slimming look.

The 3/4 sleeve is a personal favorite because it’s great for showcasing bracelets and helps us look taller. It’s fit and flare shape drops straight and doesn’t cling to the tummy.

For reference, I am wearing a large in the Olivia Top. I sized up because I like things looser in lighter colors.

These tops are hand wash hang dry to maintain the fabric softness. You can see their entire MicroModal collection here.

Note from Pauline Durban - This a great article on how to determine your body shape. I hope you enjoy it.

Over to Shelley...

I’ve never been called a fashionista and that’s okay. When I worked as an R.N., I pretty much lived in scrubs and jeans, but once I left hospital work and especially when I turned 50, I had no idea what to wear! When it came to what clothing best suited me, I kind of had an idea that I had a pear-shaped body but never knew how to determine it for certain. And I had no idea what types of clothes worked best for what types of bodies.

I’ve been trying to learn about which styles work best for my body shape so I’ve been doing some research and thought I would share.

For this, we’re using fashion expert Bradley Bayou’s system of body types along with his calculations to determine which best describes your body type. For this post, we’re just going to cover his 4 major body types: hourglass, rectangle, inverted triangle, and triangle but in his book The Science of Sexy, Bayou lists 48 different body types!

Start with your measurements

Use a cloth measuring tape to obtain your measurement. Wear your underwear, thin clothing such as yoga wear or fitness wear (or nothing). Do not wear a bra.

Shoulders: You may need help with this measurement. Measure from the tip of one shoulder all the way around you. The measuring tape should be high up around your shoulders so that it almost slips off.

Bust: Measure the fullest part of your bust. Don’t pull the tape so tight that it squashes. Make sure to stay horizontal.

Waist: Wrap the tape measure around your natural waist. Measure the smallest part of your natural waist, just above your belly button and below your rib cage. (If you bend to the side, the crease that forms is your natural waistline.)

Hips: Start at one hip (below the hip bone) and wrap the tape measure completely around making sure the tape is over the largest part of your butt. For most women, that measurement is just about at the crotch.

Once you have those measurements, you’ll use them to help determine your body shape. Get ready for some math!

In Bayou’s equations, he allows the shoulder measurement and the bust measurement to be used interchangeably. This takes into account those women who have especially big or small busts or especially narrow or broad shoulders. When doing this, you might find that using the equation with your shoulder measurement places you in a different body-type category than when you use your bust measurement. In this case, you would consider both body types when shopping for clothes and choose which item looks best on you.

Let’s start with The Hourglass Shape

With the hourglass shape, your shoulders and hips are approximately the same sizes and you have a very defined waistline. You ave an hourglass shape if your waist is at least 25% smaller than your shoulder or bust measurement (waist ÷ shoulders and bust x 0.75) AND your waist is at least 25% smaller than your hips (waist ÷ hips x 0.75) AND your shoulder and hip measurements are within 5% of each other.

The calculations for the measurements may seem complicated but they really aren’t.

T = the larger of the two measurements
Y = the smaller of the two measurements
Multiply T by 0.95. If Y is bigger than this result (T x 0.95), then your hips and shoulders are within 5% of each other.

For example: if your shoulders and hips measure 36 inches and your waist measures 27 inches, then you are an hourglass shape.

Sophia Vergara and Salma Hayek are good examples of an hourglass shape.

What to wear: You want to build a horizontal line at the shoulders and hips and a vertical line to help slim your waist even more. But sometimes you want to blur the lines of your hourglass shape.

Wrap tops and dresses, (especially mermaid style dresses) are good choices for you. Tight clothes, pencil skirts, leggings, jeans for curvier women.

This chain-print wrap dress from Chico’s is currently on sale!

If you would rather not accentuate your curves, choose sweat clothes, skater skirts, loose blouses, cowl-neck tops, and overalls.

The Rectangle Shape

This is the more boyish of shapes without too many curves. Your shoulders, bust and hips are around the same size and your waist is not well defined. This shape was often seen on the models in the 1990s (think Kate Moss) and is said to be the easiest to style. With this body type, you can actually decide for yourself which part of your body you want to accentuate and choose styles for your objective.

You have a rectangle shape if your waist is less than 25% smaller than your shoulder or bust AND your shoulder, bust and hip measurements are within 5% of each other.

T = the largest of the three measurements (it will usually be the shoulders)
Y = one of the other measurements
Z = the leftover measurement

Multiply T by 0.95. If Y and Z are greater than the result of T x 0.95, then your shoulder, bust, and hips are within 5% of each other.

Example: Your shoulder measurement is 36 inches and your waist measurement is more than 27 inches.

Kendall Jenner and GiGi Hadid are also examples of women with this body shape.

What to wear: Technically, any type of clothing works for you. Lucky girl!

Some thoughts; Asymmetric clothing, in the cut or the pattern, to add interest; minimalism like a straight sleeveless shift or a top with spaghetti straps.

I own this top. It looks great with a black pencil skirt. Pants – straight jeans rather than skinny or slim jeans.

The Triangle Shape

The triangle shape, also sometimes called the pear shape (not nice!), is when your hips are wider than your shoulders. It’s the most common body type. If your hips are more than 5% bigger than your shoulders or bust (hips ÷ shoulders or bust x 1.05), then you are a triangle shape.

Example: your shoulders are 36 inches and your hips are 37.75 inches or larger.

With this body shape, you would want to accentuate the thinness of your waist and work to elongate your legs. Beyonce’, Jennifer Lopez and Marilyn Monroe are examples of women who have this body shape.

What to wear: You want to build a horizontal line at the level of your shoulders to even yourself out (maybe with shoulder pads or some ornamentation) and to elongate your legs by wearing heels or long dresses.

Dresses: A-Line, Poof dress

Boatneck tops, tops with horizontal stripes, and off-the-shoulder tops are good choices. *Tops should not end at the hip level. They should either be shorter or longer than the hip.

This boatneck top that ends below the hip from cabotparticlematters is a good choice for the Triangle shape.

Pants: They should really not be slim or skinny jeans. The new wider legged pants are a much better option because they balance out your hips.

Accessories: Statement necklaces, scarves, larger earrings – items that draw attention away from your hips.

The Inverted Triangle Shape

With this shape, your shoulders or bust are larger than your hip measurement. Your shoulder or bust measurement is more than 5% bigger than your hip measurement (shoulders or bust ÷ hips x 1.05).

Example: your shoulders are 36 inches and your hips are 34.25 inches or smaller.

This is a very sporty type and is usually reached by training rather than by nature. Renee Zellweger and Naomi Campbell have this body shape. You will usually see these ladies tilted slightly when they are in front of the camera in order to appear to have a more narrow and feminine shoulder line and for the most part you will see them bringing attention away from their shoulders.

What to wear:

Tops – long-sleeved, vertical strips, tops that are loose at the waist. The length of the tops is best below the hips or at the crotch.

This top is a good choice because it is loose at the waist and sits below the hips.

Pants – the slim types are not so good. Palazzo pants are a good option if you are tall enough.

Dresses – maxi lengths are great. Racer-back tops and dresses are other options as they elongate you.

Accessories – low-slung wide belts sitting below the hips, high heels

I hope this article will make it a bit easier to determine your body type and shop for styles that flatter your body.

The top that I’m wearing in the cover photo was gifted to me by cabotparticlematters. You can find it here.

https://cabotparticlematters.com/blogs/blog/5-tips-to-dress-for-success-for-boomer-women 2020-02-07T07:15:00-08:00 2020-02-10T10:18:18-08:00 5 Tips to Dress for Success for Boomer Women Pauline Durban Women want to be taken seriously on the job. Whether it’s in the workplace or everyday life, boomer women who dress for success can make a lasting impression on everyone they meet. Follow these fashion tips to help you land that dream job, get that promotion, or even leave a date speechless.

1. Dress to impress

Flowy pantsuits are all the rage for women of every age. This kind of pantsuit usually looks best when the blazer and pants match in color and pattern. If the blazer and pants are a solid color, a print camisole or blouse will add some pizazz.

Since the pants are usually flared, high heels are recommended. Wear your favorite stiletto heel or an edgy wedge for height.

2. Feel confident yet comfortable

Although confidence is key to success in a woman’s life, comfort is important too. While high heels can complete any outfit, they may not be the most practical choice in footwear. Choose shoes you can wear without pain if you’ll be on your feet a lot during the day.

If the day requires a lot of sitting at your desk, wear your favorite flashy pumps. Sandals work for summer business attire, especially with a fresh pedicure.

3. Add some flare

Dressing for success means showing your personality in your choice of jewelry and accessories. Don’t be afraid to break out the animal prints and bold colors.

For example, this flared leopard print top is perfect for almost any occasion. Don’t go overboard, though: Too much animal print and your outfit goes from “wow” to “whoa.”

4. Make tea-length dresses your best friend

Dresses are attractive, wearable, and easy to style. Whether the style is business or casual, tea-length dresses always work in your favor. Layer a trendy blazer or chic wrap to add a touch of drama.

Almost any type of shoe goes with mid-length dresses. Wear them with heels, boots, or your favorite ballet flats. Look for modest necklines and silhouettes that go from desk to dinner with ease.

5. Put accessories to work

Accessories are a lot of fun and add interest to any outfit. Switch up your bracelets, bag, and belt and your basic black suit works from nine to five and beyond. A chunky necklace or bright scarf makes a simple sweater look fantastic. Your wardrobe works a lot harder if you have the right accessories.

Remember to edit, however. If you’re wearing chandelier earrings, skip the necklace or wear a simple chain. Resist the urge to bejewel every bit of skin. As Coco Chanel said, every woman should look in the mirror before she leaves the house and takes one thing off. It’s good advice to keep your look chic and elegant.

Boomer women shouldn’t change their style just because they’ve reached a certain age. Just make a few simple changes and stick to the basics and you’ll look great at every age.

This is a great article on how to slim your tummy, for sure something that I need to do. How about you?

Over to Susan...

More Tummy Slimming Tricks

Many styling tricks are known and used by the most fashionable women. It isn't that they have perfect bodies. They just know how to guide your gaze to their best features.

Women over fifty often complain about the sudden thickening of the waistline. Welcome to my world! I weighed nine pounds and eleven ounces at birth; my thick waistline has been my nemesis ever since. This means I have been using tummy hiding tricks for a very long time.

One such trick is to half-tuck your shirt. When you leave a shirt with a straight hem entirely tucked or un-tucked, you create a straight bold horizontal line, usually at the widest portion of your body. This line guides the eye to look there at your middle in all its glory.

I created this collage to demonstrate this point. All of the pants and tops are the same size. In the center, I replaced the crew neck tee with an open jacket. (Imagine that there is a low scoop neck shorter black tank under the jacket in the middle.)
Do you see how varying the hem length of your top or layers of tops creates the illusion of being more slender?

A bold horizontal line or break at or near the waistline makes you look shorter and wider because it visually cuts your body in half. That is why I am a fan of wearing or creating the illusion of an asymmetric or broken up hemlines in my tops. The diagonal line is so much more flattering than a single straight horizontal one. A jacket, cardigan or vest is worn open over a shorter or longer tank is a look you see me wear often for this reason.

FNF3

To get this effect, just tuck a little of the hem of the shirt into your waistband and let it fall softly back in place. This styling trick makes your legs look longer and removes the focus from your waistline. I also love a V-neckline for its ability to lengthen.

The Henley style cabotparticlematters top I am wearing here is indeed the perfect casual top to wear with jeans, with or without a jacket. It is made in the USA from soft draping micro modal knit, which adds no bulk under jackets. The neckline is very flattering, not just for the face but for the body as a whole because of the diagonal lines.

The three-quarter length sleeves are the next slimming trick. Showing your forearms, further, breaks up the straight line created across your middle by your clothing. When your sleeves and your hemline end at the same point, it creates a solid, horizontal line.

Even my hair is cut in a diagonal line as you can see from the photo below. Hairstyles should be considered in a full-length mirror because balance is imperative for your overall look. A good stylist understands this and will give you a cut that creates balance and harmony from head to toe. (Imagine a petite woman with long full-bushy hair that visually seems too heavy for her small body to carry.)

I hope that these tips help you to get dressed with more confidence every day.
The top was provided by cabotparticlematters. The jacket and jeggings are old from Chico's. The Ralph Lauren bag is from 6pm.com last year. The Vince Camuto sandals are several years old from Nordstrom.

cabotparticlematters Cascading Vest and Simple Comfort Tunic

Many of you have asked me about the cabotparticlematters tunics ever since I was in California to model for the line earlier this year.

Today I thought I would show you the two pieces I get the most questions about.

The question I am most often asked is "Can you see through the white tunics?". The medium I am wearing fits well, but the fabric is so densely woven, the black leggings I am wearing do not show underneath the white fabric even in natural daylight.

The second question I am often asked is, "What other ways can the cascading vest be worn?"

I forgot to bring a belt for this shoot, but you could wear the vest belted for a slimmer silhouette. I also like to wear it knotted low in front.

You can also wear it as a scarf. Hold one of the armholes in one hand and put the rest of the garment around your neck and thread it all through the armhole. Viola! You have a lovely scarf!

The tunic is so comfortable and lightweight you can wear it even on the hottest day. The easy-care fabric can be machine washed and hung to dry.

For a limited time, Fifty, not Frumpy followers can get a 20% discount on up to two items! Use the discount code FNF20 when you check out at cabotparticlematters. Over to Susan...

Many have asked, “Why do you not wear prints?” I do sometimes wear a stripe, polka dot, or animal print if the colors are cool and the pattern not very bold.

My new top from cabotparticlematters is an excellent choice. (A V-neck version is here.) I thought you might enjoy seeing some of the ways I have worn it.

I wear the tops with slim-fitting straight-leg pants and short boots to give me a long, lean base. From there, I can add any third piece

I want without looking too bulky.

The soft tops are perfect for wearing under a jacket or sweater.
(I am wearing a size medium, and I am 5’6″ tall.
My shape is an inverted triangle.)

]]>
As we get older putting on weight seems to just happen without us even trying. When I started cabotparticlematters, I wore a medium, now I’m a large. This happened without any effort whatsoever. Well, I’m a chocaholic that might have something to do with it.

One thing I have noticed without fail is that when I wear certain clothes, people ask me if I’ve lost weight. No, I haven’t. It’s the clothes that give an illusion that I'm slimmer than I actually am.

The MicroModal vest with pockets is probably my favorite.
I wear it all the time, over different colors and print tops.

I’m a leggings and jeans person, so the vest is perfect to
cover the derriere. (I love that word).
It creates lines that make you look slimmer.
It looks fabulous with a skirt too!

If you aren’t comfortable with the vest open, there’s a cute button
strategically placed to cover your tummy.
Worn here with the V-neck leopard print. See all the prints here.

Tops that take your eyes down is always a good idea too.
When I want to wear something dressy, I love this button side top.

When I want to go casual, I love the layered top. I get more people
asking if I’ve lost weight when I wear this one more than any other.
It's lucky we have it in three color combinations.

Another item I personally wear a lot of is the cascading vest.
You can tie it up so many ways, it’s very versatile.
Just use your imagination and it will look different every time.
Of course, you can leave it hanging loose, which will create lines, again,
that gives you that slimming effect.

Then, of course, there’s the Popcorn jacket.
You can dress this up or down.
It looks great with a black top and leggings.
Adding long jewelry gives an additional slimming effect.

One final point. Sometimes we have to go up a size to look slimmer, bulges are not attractive.

I went up a size and people still think I've lost weight.

Remember, these are just suggestions. You go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

There's a special when you buy 2 items, you get the 3rd free from any combinations.

Happy shopping

Over to Beth...

Beth Springer, was a successful model for nearly twenty years. As she approached 40, she gave it up to start her own business. Twelve years later, at fifty-something, she decided to give modeling one more go. The jobs were scarce — until she stopped coloring her hair.

As told to Genevieve Monsma, from the Plum

HOW I GOT MY START

My first foray into modeling was at the age of 19 when Mademoiselle magazine was doing makeovers at malls around the country, and they came to my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the time, I was a sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis, was home for the summer, and a friend and I thought it would be fun to go to the event. I was one of three teens chosen for a makeover, had my photo taken and, that fall was one of ten women to appear in the magazine. That experience sparked my interest in being in front of the camera, and when the magazine came out, I took it to Talent Plus in St. Louis and told the owner I wanted to model. We did some test shots, and my career was born.

THE ARC OF A MODELING CAREER, AND HOW IT RELATES TO HAIR

I spent most of my twenties and thirties modeling. For the first fifteen years, I had an international career and traveled regularly, appearing in magazines, such as Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Self, and Vogue.

I worked with photographers like Peter Lindbergh and in campaigns for brands like Revlon and Versace. In my late thirties, I started doing primarily commercial work and by 40, I decided I was ready to try something else.

For twelve years, I ran my own handbag business. I also let my dark hair grow long and my personal style became more bohemian. It was the first time I was doing something that was divorced from how I looked, and it was freeing to be able to wear my hair and dress the way I wanted.

It may sound silly, but when your career has been based on how someone wants you to look, this was a process of discovery — and recovery — for me. I also enjoyed doing something where I could use my intelligence and speak my mind. As a model, more than once, I was told I was not being paid to talk.

Yet, despite all of that, I did miss the creativity of being in front of the camera. I was good at modeling. And, when the recession hit and my handbag line suffered, like many small fashion businesses at the time, I thought I could try modeling again, this time on my own terms.

So, I started to dip my toes into modeling and acting. And the work was ok, but not that steady or that interesting. Initially, when I returned to modeling, my hair was still dark like it had been in my twenties and thirties. But staying brunette was increasingly cumbersome.

I am blessed with healthy, fast-growing hair, but this also meant I was in the salon every three to four weeks touching up my roots. So, my colorist suggested I go blonder, which would help camouflage the incoming gray and extend my time between appointments.

She was right: Being blonde was less maintenance, but interestingly, also less modeling work. I’m still not sure why. Almost five years later I thought, why am I putting all this dye on my head? I’m tired of it. And I talked to my colorist about the process of growing in my natural gray.

She was not that enthused about it, but she agreed to help me with the transition. I didn’t want to cut all my hair off at once, and I didn’t want massive roots, so we went very slowly. Initially, I stayed blonde on my top layers, but each time I went to have my hair colored, we left more and more of the underside of my hair alone.

Sometimes the color looked a little awkward, and my colorist made me swear not to tell anyone she did my color during this period, but I felt I was growing in the gray with dignity and grace and in the way that felt right for me. It took almost two years, but eventually, I was there. My gray had grown in.

HOW I'M OWNING BEING A GRAY-HAIRED MODEL

Although I’d made the transition for personal and not professional reasons, my agent loved my new silvery strands and he wasn’t the only one.

Suddenly, at 57, I started to get the most interesting jobs I’d had in years. I was cast in ads as a surfer and a skateboarder — and I was a dancer in Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road music video.

I am constantly complimented on my hair color now, often by younger people. Hair color has always been important in the beauty and fashion business, and the choice to go gray may seem bold.

But it has been fun and exciting to be loud and proud and see my career growing as a result. I think my silver hair makes me a symbol of freedom and self-ownership, rather than a woman winding down.

The benefits of being gray go beyond steadier, more interesting work though. I feel like embracing my natural color also brought me greater self-acceptance. And that feels good. I believe I project more radiance and sex appeal as a result. I’m not trying to be something I’m not. The way I see it, we age if we’re lucky. I am so very lucky.

Note from Pauline Durban, founder of cabotparticlematters - Barbie joined our family when she joined us for the fall photo shoot. She did an amazing job as you will see by the pictures appearing on the website. Read about her experience.

Over to Barbie...

I had the privilege of joining a group of empowering midlife women for a photo shoot for the launch of cabotparticlematters’s Fall Collection.

The shoot was so much fun, new connections were made, the time flew by, and best of all was the opportunity to model each of the new fall arrivals!!

The Knotted Bottom Tops featured above are an absolute delight to wear! The Modal fabric drapes effortlessly into a flattering loose knot at the bottom.

The bell sleeves add an elegant flair. What is most exciting about the group of women who model for cabotparticlematters, is that they come back season after season to work with Pauline Durban, founder, and brain-child behind the cabotparticlematters label.

This is a testament to Pauline’s commitment to the connections and friendships she has forged with these amazing women. I feel incredibly fortunate and blessed to have joined the tribe!

What is so special about cabotparticlematters?

Firstly, it is the owner, Pauline Durban, who makes this brand so fabulous. This company evolved from Pauline’s own frustration with the lack of stylish, yet flattering clothing for mature women in the fashion industry. In her mind, she knew she wasn’t alone in recognizing the market was missing the reality that mature women shouldn’t have to give up fashion and style for comfort.

So Pauline set out to create her own fashion line for mature women offering both comfort AND style which flatters, covers and hugs in all the right places! And, boy does she get it right! The fabric in her designs is the softest, most luxurious fabric you’ll find. It is called MicroModal and it’s breathable like a second skin, drapes without clinging and are machine washable and soft as a dream.

Animal prints continue to dominate fashion trends this fall. What I especially love about this leopard print is its dominant neutral tone. This makes the top versatile, styling it on its own, or with pops of color. Easily pair it with jeans and flats, or dark trousers and heels to transition from day to evening.

Last year, I wrote a cabotparticlematters review featuring an outfit gifted to me by Pauline. During our conversation, I mentioned I’d be thrilled to model for her should the opportunity arise. She said she’d keep me in mind.

In this town (Los Angeles) that comment tends to be lip service, but Pauline was true to her word and she reached out to me offering a spot to be a model for the new fall arrivals. To say the least, I was ecstatic!

FUN - FUN -FUN!

The photoshoot was so much fun! Lots of giggles and laughs among all the gals. Our hair and makeup artist was amazing and made us all look so glamorous. When I got home, I insisted Big Rich take me out for dinner. I wanted to continue to show off the fabulous look I had going on!

As mentioned before, animal prints are still all the rage and Pauline has brilliantly added snow leopard print tops to the collection in different styles.

These new cabotparticlematters print tops are sure to be a hit- soft, comfy, stylish and versatile. Just pick any color and style of accessory and poof, it’s a new look! Pauline graciously gifted me the v-neck, but I am also fond of the flirty Animal Print Flare Top styled below and feel it belongs in my wardrobe, too!

I am definitely going to take advantage of the buy two, get the third free incentive (in any combination)!

cabotparticlematters Models

All of the models were super friendly and engaging. Many are dear, long-time friends to Pauline. Their loyalty speaks to the “fabric” of Pauline’s character. Each model brings something unique to the experience.

A couple of ladies have been modeling professionally for decades, but never once did I feel intimidated. I watched carefully and took notes as they worked their magic in front of the camera.

The Photographer

Our accomplished photographer, Lesley Pedraza, is a veteran in the fashion industry and has experience in all sides of the business. She led us through the paces with fun, positive energy.

Working with her was a dream! Lesley’s input and directions were concise and easy to follow which made executing those modeling moves in front of the camera much easier!

This Zipper Front Top is sooo comfortable and flattering with a casual-chic style. The teal and red colors are bright and vibrant. Pauline gifted me a red version which will be “perfect” for the Holiday Season!

And, for something a bit more alluring, there is the Off The Shoulder Top. The flattering neckline is styled in such a way to barely reveal the shoulders or more bravely reveal a whole shoulder.

This is what I love about Pauline’s designs, there is that little something extra!! This style is also available in rich fall tones of violet and wine.

My lifelong dream has always been to be a model. It was a long time coming to fruition. In my late 50’s I took the plunge! My work centers mostly around lifestyle modeling so doing a fashion shoot was an absolute dream and fits “PERFECTLY” with my aspirations.

Women Supporting Women

Pauline’s motto is “women supporting women” and I am grateful to her for giving me this opportunity to live out my modeling dreams. I hope I can offer inspiration to other midlife women, by encouraging them to take that first step. It’s not too late and there is time to rewire and start something new!

There are incentives, if you buy two, you get your third free – any combination! Also, ships worldwide! To see the entire collection and to shop click here. For more information on Barbie, visit her blog, click here

Over to Terri...

Pauline of cabotparticlematters has just released some refreshing looks in the animal motif trend that is still wildly popular.

The “Snow Leopard” print tops are classic with a beautiful and easy on the eye print. Being a mixture of winter white, black and grey, I feel that the snow leopard print has an ability to mix with more color palettes than the traditional cheetah and leopard patterns. The Snow Leopard is quite a versatile cat.

cabotparticlematters offers the Snow Leopard print in four styles. They are shown in the above photo. From left to right: V-neck T-Top with three-quarter sleeves, scooped neck T-Top with three-quarter sleeves, a gathered top and a duotone (with black) flared bottom design.

For the blog today, I picked the simple V-Neck T-Top to style and review. All four tops are made of 96% Micromodal and 6% Spandex. “MicroModal® is something truly special. The fiber is made of European beechwood, is completely natural and produced in Austria. This natural composition makes it a breathable fabric, suitable for wearing close to the skin.”

MicroModal

“It’s described as the softest fabric in the world and is so gentle it feels like a second skin. It’s super soft and luxurious, you will love it!” Before I get started with a few ways I’ve been wearing my top, I want to talk a little bit about Pauline and her company.

Pauline Durban founded cabotparticlematters over six years ago out of shopping frustration. At 57, she just couldn’t find tops that flattered her shape. Today she has a successful company that designs for classically aged ladies in sizes S-2X. Another important fact for me is that she makes all her clothes right here in the USA.

They are excellent quality and if you want to try and be more environmentally conscious in your fashion choices, purchasing a piece from cabotparticlematters is a good way to start. I immediately knew that the snow leopard print would seamlessly fit with a lot I already had. Everything that I am using with my new top is sourced from my closet. So let’s get started…

Just Going Simple

This top is such an eye-catcher and elegant it looks great just thrown on with a favorite pair of jeans and shoes for a quick on-trend vibe. In my case, it’s my four-year-old but essential Madewell dark denim skinny jeans, black Vince Camuto slip-on, and my essential basic black bag.

I’m showing three views of this top because I think it is the perfect length (I’m 5’5″ and am wearing a large) and flattering from all angles.

cabotparticlematters + cabotparticlematters

Mixing a new cabotparticlematters piece with one of my older ones is something I love doing. I think the Long & Lean Vest from last spring really complements my new top.

In contrast, I chose washed out black jeans from H&M’s 2018 Conscience Collection and added grey accessories (Coach bag and Rebecca Minkoff suede flats).

Adding the Basic Essential Black Blazer

When the weather is cooler, I can exchange the long vest with my essential black blazer from DKNY, which I purchased at Macy’s last year.

For fun, I added one of my thrift shops finds from about ten years ago; an old Kate Spade grey fabric design bag.

Adding Some Color With Soft Pink

This is how I have mainly been wearing my Snow Leopard top. It’s a little dressier although I’m still wearing jeans; my Caslon skinny jeans from Nordstroms (now sold out). For a little extra flair, I added some cut velvet booties I picked up from TJ Maxx a couple of years ago. It’s perfect with BB Dakota’s Teagan reversible jacket.

The blush pink is sold out but the jacket is available in other colors which would go great too. I’ve worn it out to eat, shopping and meetings. This has been my perfect “go-to” outfit.

Layering Over a Sleeveless Maxi Dress

I love layering. It stretches items from season to season. For fun, I pulled out a very old thrifted Eddie Bauer cotton maxi dress and threw my Snow Leopard top over it and added a silver chain belt (also thrifted).

Black boots topped it off along with my black Rebecca Minkoff Leo clutch. We have a little more black and white action going on in this photo.

Let me please introduce Penny who decided she needed to be a model today and she does match me perfectly!

Over to Susan...

Many followers who live in warmer climates have asked for suggestions
on how to dress more fall-like without overheating.
A few styling tips can help you celebrate the season without melting.

Balance the exposure on the top with the bottom.
When you wear a three-quarter sleeve top with a low neckline,
show a bit of skin at your ankles too.

Closed-toe shoes or short booties are another way to make your look more appropriate for fall.

Skip the heavy socks or tights for now, and wear no show socks instead.
I like the socks because they don’t slip off as I walk.

Wear bold or darker colors in fabrics that aren’t heavy.
My lip color today is Girl’s Night here.

The top has bell sleeves and a V neckline, which are very flattering for gals with a large bust.
The color is perfect for cool skin tones.

It was a gift from cabotparticlematters (here).

When you buy two tops, the third one is free! (Or use the code FNF20 to get 20% off one or two items.)
Only one promotion will work.

My jeggings and handbag are both a couple of years old.
My short booties are also old.
The elements of my looks are rarely new

When I show photos taken inside my home, I often get decorating questions.

I tend to collect items that appeal to me and keep them
for many years (as I do with my wardrobe).

The cushions on my sofa were looking very tired,
so I picked up new throw pillows
(similar here) this week.

The change to more contemporary fabrics made a significant impact.

I appreciate your questions and positive comments,
no matter if you are asking about solo travel, healthy food options,
skincare or makeup, styling tips, or decorating.
I’m always happy to share what I’ve learned
or go searching for more info so that I can respond helpfully.

Remember, when you buy two tops, the third one is free!

Happy Shopping

Over to Rosemary...

It’s Fall In Florida!

Do you enjoy fall parties and entertaining?
When October rolls around here in North Florida
we enjoy being outside in the crisp dry air.
With that comes the decorating with pumpkins, fall festivals,
lots of college football, Halloween! And let’s not forget fall fashions!

One of my favorite things about living in North Florida is that
although we do have our share of hot Florida weather,
we get to enjoy the cooler autumn temperatures and
experience a slight change of seasons for several months.
During the month of October, we enjoy a variety of art,
car, and craft shows. Along with UF “Gator” and local sports,
we do a lot of tailgating and outdoor entertaining!

On Halloween, you will find me greeting Trick or Treaters
with my Grandkids and wearing my newest
ANIMAL PRINT FLARE BOTTOM
Snow Leopard top from cabotparticlematters.
I am a huge fan of their tops, blouses, pencil skirts, lightweight jackets,
vests, dresses, and leisure suits. and animal prints.

Note from Pauline Durban, founder of cabotparticlematters - Sherri is both a customer and a blogger, sometimes she buys them, sometimes, I send her a sample to review. Either way, she always looks great and this leopard print top is an example.

Over to Sherri...

If you love an animal print, it’s not too hard to find the style you’re looking for these days but to find style, comfort, and the perfect fit is not as easy.

So when Pauline from cabotparticlematters suggested I try one of her new styles, especially when I saw this print, I was all in.

It seems to me that this is one of the few prints that can act as a neutral or be the highlight of an outfit, which may be one of the reasons why I gravitate towards it. If you’re looking, you will find this design everywhere, always somewhat varied, but the trend seems to be consistent.

For me, the trend is never good enough. I won’t wear something just because it’s in style. It has to be comfortable, functional, fit my style and have a justified price point. If you’ve worn clothes from this brand, then you already know why I would love this top. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for?

This is the animal print, luxurious modal scoop-neck top, and this fabric against your skin is amazing. Let’s not forget it can go right in the washing machine as well!

There are very few brands that can create a top that hugs your body in all the right places and at the same time is forgiving when needed. This is probably my favorite neckline as well. It allows for a scarf, a statement necklace, long earrings and/or a long chain.

I wore it with neutrals for a luncheon I attended in the city. As I have shown in this picture, it can become the highlight of the outfit. The top gives a nice pop while remaining understated for this particular event.

This is probably my favorite neckline as well. It allows for a scarf, a statement necklace, long earrings and/or a long chain.

Another winner from cabotparticlematters that I have come to love. The incentives are there if you buy two, you get your third free – any combination.
